For Charity!
Don't want multi-coloured scarves made from scrap yarn pieces? Aren't interested in a mish- mash quilt made of various fabric squares cut from whatever you had laying at the bottom of the fabric drawer?
Lucky for you!
There are people out there who do! Men, women, and children of all ages living below
the poverty line, in underdevelopped countries, and in homeless shelters need YOUR help!
You can help by knitting scarves, hats, and mitts from your scrap bits of yarn that you'll never use,
you can sew blankets from bits of fabric, make patchwork dolls and teddy bears, the possibilities
of making a difference in someone's life are enormous. Consider crafting for charity!
But Which Charity ?
This is often a big question. Some people don't know of any charity that will accept items,
some people aren't sure where to find information, and some people just aren't sure how to choose!
There are a few things one can keep in mind when deciding what to donate where:
- Adults can find the resources to help themselves. Children can't.
- Animals are stuck relying on the kindness of strangers. Consider giving to your local animal shelter or rescue organization
- Non-profit shelters rely on the generosity of the community, as there's only so much funding to go around, and a lot of places it needs to go
- Homelessness is a problem everywhere, so there are always soup kitchens and homeless shelters somewhere in need
- Local Welfare/Social Services, and Children's Aid/Child Protection Services offices have lists of various charities in need
- The internet! Use Google to search for charities/non-profits in your area!
Nothing says you have to donate locally. There are many international organizations out there that help people all over the world!
But no matter who you donate to, be sure you do your research and know it's a legitimate charity out to help others.
